Site notes

Rising to a height that has caused it, on more than one occasion, to be mistaken for one of the surrounding peaks, this structure appears to have held a role of considerable importance. Its verticality alone — inexplicable, given the modest scale of the settlements around it — suggests an ambition that the evidence within has entirely failed to explain.

For very little remains of whatever took place here. The interior is largely hollow: a repetition of near-identical compartments, stacked one upon another to no discernible hierarchy, each stripped of nearly all content. A handful of objects have been recovered — a few of durable material, evidently prized — while the remainder, whatever it may have been, appears to have been consumed by time.

It is possible that the building's contents were never intended to endure. Some have proposed that the labour conducted within left no material trace by design; that its products were immaterial, or perishable, or simply of no consequence once produced. The suggestion has been received with scepticism.
