Fire Starter

Fire Starter

Provenance
Interpretation

This handheld device, fitted with two metallic prongs at its extremity, is believed to have produced sparks through some internal mechanism, now corroded beyond study. As fuel and kindling grew scarce, the ability to start a fire quickly must have become a matter of survival, which would explain the remarkable care given to the crafting of this tool. Some scholars go further, suggesting that fire-starting had by then acquired a ritual dimension, with devices like this one reserved for the keepers of communal flames.
